Let's see what Wikipedia has to say about driving....

"Driving is the controlled operation of a land vehicle, such as a car, truck or bus. Although direct operation of a bicycle, a mounted animal (not including chariot operation) or a motorcycle (at least in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Australia) is commonly called riding, such operators are usually legally considered to be drivers and are required to obey the rules of the road which apply to all drivers."

Driving Lesson #1

DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS

How to drive the vehicle?

To drive the vehicle safely and keep our vehicle in a good condition we have to strictly follow the traffic rules and the driving instructions. This will lead you to avoid the accidents and to have a safe drive.

First we should not disturb others while driving, in the current situation we cannot stop others making mistakes but we can save our life by following the driving methods. If we follow those methods then we will be safe.

CONTROLS:

We should be in total control of the vehicle while driving. Normally all the parts in the vehicle which is used manually are called controls. There are two types of controls

Ø Major Control

Ø Minor Control

This is some thing like “Major Operation” and “Minor Operation”. Irrespective of major or minor operation if the doctor do some small mistake then there is no assurance of patients life. Similarly while driving if we do some small mistake then the reactions will lead to an accident it may be major or minor according to the mistakes that you have done.

MAJOR CONTROLS:

There are five types of major controls.

Ø Accelerator.

Ø Break.

Ø Clutch.

Ø Gear.

Ø Steering.

To use these controls, there are some methods to be followed for each control.

Accelerator: Accelerator is use to increase and decrease the speed of the vehicle; accelerator should not be applied or released suddenly. If it happens then the vehicle will be dragged out and we will loose our control, this is not good for the passengers and also for the person who is driving. Accelerator should be applied according to the speed limit mentioned in the road traffic.

Break: Break is use to stop the vehicle or to reduce the speed of the vehicle during movement. Do not apply the break suddenly without any purpose. If it happens then the rear side of the vehicle will hit our vehicle. Break should be applied gradually if the driver knows the spot.

The timing to reach the break pedal from the accelerator should as fast as possible. Before we do this there are two types of process involved in this 1. Thinking distance and 2. Reaction distance. Thinking distance is some thing that we have though that we have to stop the vehicle in that spot. Reaction distance is how actually you reacted to stop the vehicle in that spot. Thinking and Reaction should go hand on hand, based on the situation the break pedal should be pressed either suddenly or slowly. The main thing while pressing the break pedal, your heal should not be landed. If we did the above perfectly you can control your vehicle, as you want.

Clutch: Clutch is use to change the gear in a smooth way which will also push your vehicle movement according to the speed. Clutch should be gradually applied and it should be pressed fully.

There are three steps that should be followed while applying and releasing the clutch.

Ø Baiting Point

Ø Balancing Point

Ø Play Point

BAITING POINT: First you should fully press the clutch and put the first gear now slowly release the clutch you may feel the vibration in your vehicle and also the engine sound will be change. Now at this point you should hold your leg in the same position for couple of seconds, this indicates that our vehicle is ready to move.

BALANCING POINT: If we release the clutch slightly our vehicle will start moving like a tortoise. Hold your leg at this position till your vehicle cross up to 2 to 3 feet.

PLAY POINT: if we release the clutch some more, the vehicle will move faster than before and Hold your leg at that point. In this position you can bring your vehicle to the direction in which it wants to move. After doing these three points gradually release the clutch and increase the speed of the vehicle by pressing accelerator.

GEAR: First of all you should hold the gear rood in your palm. Not only increasing or decreasing the gear according to the speed but also you should keep control during the traffic signs, slope, and upward slope. If you fail to do this then your vehicle will not be in your control.

STEERING: This will take you where your vehicle should go in which direction. You should not turn the vehicle for your wish. The driver should hold the steering like 9 and 3 position as shown in the clock. The steering control will be very sensitive when the vehicle is moving above 60km speed at that moment hold your hand in steering as in 10 and 2 position in the clock. While turning, the hands should not cross the position as in 12 and 6 in clock; rather the driver should use pull and push method.

(B) MINOR CONTROLS:
Some of the minor controls are right side mirror, left side mirror, review mirror, indicator, horn, fuel gage, temperature meter, speedometer, etc…

Driving Lesson #2

Driving without concentration will cause accident this is both physically and mentally absent.

Out of 100% accident 10% of accidents done reasonably (5% of accident caused due to mechanical faults and remaining 5% of accidents caused due to road faults)

Remaining 90% of accidents caused due to drivers while driving. There may be lot of complaints on the driver’s side (like drunk and drive, over confident, over speed, continuous driving without rest) but these all comes under the category of less concentration.

In the present situation, no one can say that they can drive without any accident because most of us will usually think while driving.

Generally most of the accident will be occurred in two situations. 1) When you start moving the vehicle towards the road 2) while the vehicle moving on the road

Can you be physically present and mentally present while driving?

“Yes we can example Japanese people. “

Because they were one of the top grown country without any source. The reason everyone says that “hard work “. Isn’t we? But why we cannot?

The main reason is concentration, let us take their teatime, they used to drink tea in a big bowl which contain the quantity of tea about 300ml. while drinking it they use to analyze the taste and heat by sipping it each time they do both at the same. Because the taste and the heat will not be the same as they started. Usually they used to drink tea around 18 to 20 minutes. By doing this, their concentration will be totally with the tea. This improves there concentration and says that while doing the work they will concentrate only on one given work and they will do it fully and successfully.

If a person do any work with full concentration both physically and mentally present the result will be 100%.

Why we took them as an example in our driving? If we do any mistakes in other job we can rectify it by next time like if a student fails in any subject he/she may clear in next time. But if we lose our concentration while driving the only option is accident which cannot be regained. So concentration is very important while driving.

To overcome this, there are two methods that we should follow

Ø MSM

Ø PSL

MSM (Mirror Signal Man over): This method is used to move your vehicle towards the road safely.

MIRROR: Before moving your vehicle monitor in the right side mirror if any vehicle is coming by the side

SIGNAL: Then put up your indicator (right).

MAN OVER: Giving accelerator by releasing clutch is called man over

PSL (Position Speed Look): To avoid accident while moving on the road. Humans cannot stop while thinking while driving but you can divert it to some other process that is PSL

POSITION: Check while your vehicle is moving in the correct position (left side regarding INDIAN traffic rules).

SPEED: Monitor the speedometer after viewing position.

LOOK: It means after monitoring the position and speed of your vehicle, view the right side, left side and the rear view mirrors.

NOTE: your heads should not turn to monitor these mirrors; only your eyes should do that process

Golden Note:

If we follow all the above said processes our total concentration will be on the road and our vehicle will be in our control and this process will avoid accidents while driving.
